I don't know if this record's Johanna Augusta Anderson is my ancestor because I have found multiple Swedish emigrants with that name born around the same time she was. However, the age and emigration dates of this record's Johanna Augusta Anderson match my ancestor's, and the home town is a likely match.

This record's Johanna Augusta Anderson is age 21. My ancestor Johanna Augusta Anderson Boyd was born 17 June 1860, which means that she would have just turned 21 a month before the date of this passenger list. Multiple United States census records indicate that my ancestor Johanna Augusta Anderson immigrated to the United States in 1881. This record's ship departed from Sweden on 15 July 1881. My grandmother said that her grandmother Johanna Augusta came from Falun. This record's Johanna Augusta came from "Torsång, Falu lan". At the time of this passenger list, Torsång was a parish located in Falu lan, or Falun County.

As of this writing, Torsång is an area of Borlange municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden. It is separate from the municipality of Falun, but Falun and Borlange are next to each other and together form a metropolitan area.

This passenger list shows passengers travelling together, such as families, because they're all listed under the same contract number. Johanna Augusta Anderson is travelling by herself under her own contract number. ]

I don't know if this William Boyd is my ancestor, but the location fits and the age is very close. My ancestor William Boyd died 20 November 1869 at age 84. This William Boyd is listed as being 86 years old, and he left the alms house a few months before my ancestor's death date. If this was my ancestor, it's puzzling that he was here for about a year instead of being taken in by his many family members in the area. Could it be because he had some kind of illness that they couldn't take care of, or condition like Alzheimers?]

“Records indicate that for more than a century entire families, women with one or more children, along with elderly men and women were housed at the Poor House—in some instances for a few days, while many stayed for years. Separate quarters were provided for men and women. They received plain but wholesome food, sufficient clothing and clean sleeping accommodations. In return they were required to do such work as they were physically able to do, which could include farm work, working in the slate quarry, or saw mill.”

Age: 86

Admission Date: 9 July 1868

Comments: Went away 22 June 1869

Luacine Hoge Peery was a Dougherty relative/descendant. This record is a list of her relatives recorded at her “instance” when she was baptized by proxy in a Mormon Temple (she was deceased at the time). The baptism took place in 1919 in Logan Temple.

BELOW IS ONLY A PARTIAL COPY OF THIS RECORD.

There are pages of Doughertys in Luacine PEERY’s record from all over NJ and the rest of the United States. Anthony DOUGHERTY’s father and other ancestors are probably listed, but there’s not enough information to infer parent/child relationships. It seems like all of these Doughertys could be traced back to Templemore, Ireland.
