some extras…

I don’t have documents proving it, but Anson’s first wife Sarah ALLENTON and second wife Nancy ALLINGTON were probably sisters, and probably daughters of Benjamin ALLENTON and Nancy GARDNER. Sarah ALLENTON died 10 April 1824, when she was only 22 and only a year after she and Anson were married. Willistine Cemetery records from the Genealogical Magazine of NJ show that she is buried next to Anson BARTON, and Warren P. Coon’s records at the Rutgers University Genealogical Society of NJ say that Nancy ALLINGTON is also buried there.

Willistine Cemetery was also called Woods, Walker or Lyons cemetery. It’s in Stockholm, Hardyston Township, Sussex County. It is located on Newark Watershed property off of a dirt path off of the southbound lane of Rt 23. It was cleared in 2007.

The Snufftown Methodist Episcopal Church exists today as the Stockholm United Methodist Church. It was dedicated on 01 January 1827. It’s congregation existed before the church building was erected. Anson Barton is listed as a member of it’s first “class” (congregation?) of 1825. He’s also in the 1827 and 1829 classes with some other Bartons.

According to Passaic County, NJ Orphan Court records, Anson BARTON died endebted to a doctor and local store owner. His land that was auctioned off included the dwelling house where he and his wife lived. His debts were paid and his unnamed widow was left with $129.85.
