some extras…
William BOYD’s gravestone says he was part of the “Washington Troops” in the War of 1812. Stryker’s “Record of Officers and Men of New Jersey in Wars 1791 – 1815″ shows a William Boyd that deserted Captain John Scott’s company in October 1813, but returned to duty in Captain White Young’s company on 31 December 1813. The same record shows that William BOYD’s father-in-law Anthony DOUGHERTY was already part of Captain White Young’s company as of December 31, 1813…and that he died on that day.
Check the 1860 Hopkins map of Sussex County, NJ and you will find William Boyd’s property in Hardyston Twp, just south of Vernon Township and south of what became Canistear Reservoir. Prior to 1852, the property would have been in Vernon and prior to that in 1793 it was Hardiston.
The Hardyston Heritage Society would be interested in anything you have on theses families.
We will be working on the 250th anniversary of Hardyston (Hardiston) Township which will take place on February 25th, 2012.
Thanks for the info!
All of the info I have on these families is on this site, but I also put paper copies in the Sussex County Historical Society Office vertical files. I’d be happy to contribute them to Hardyston Heritage Society also, please email me @ boydhistory055@gmail.com to let me know how.
