some extras…
The O’CALLAGHAN family lived in New York City. They moved a lot, but mostly stayed in the same neighborhood in Southern Harlem/Northern Upper East Side (about 99th to 102nd Streets btwn about 1st to 3rd Avenues). My grandmother (daughter of Elizabeth CALLAHAN BOYD) was born in her grandmother Margaret SHIELDS O’CALLAGHAN’s apartment in New York City. My grandmother never new her grandfather John O’CALLAGHAN because he died before she was born…she thinks that she heard something about him dying after getting sick on his job as a driver, like he was exposed to the elements in bad weather a lot and got sick from that.
1905 census shows that John O’CALLAGHAN (“O’CALLAHAN”) was a driver, and the 1910 census shows that he was a truck driver. After he died, Margaret SHIELDS O’CALLAGHAN worked as a washerwoman and cleaning lady.
